Symposium and Call for Papers -- Health Law and the Elderly: Managing Risk at the End of Life

The Widener Law Review, in partnership with the Widener University School of Law Health Law Institute, Delaware Hospice, the Delaware End-of-Life Coalition, and others, announces its Symposium titled Health Law and the Elderly: Managing Risk at the End of Life, to be held from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010, in the Ruby Vale Courtroom on Widener’s Wilmington, Delaware campus.

The symposium will be of interest and value to: elder law attorneys, health law attorneys, physicians, hospital administrators, hospital ethics committee members, nurses, social workers, other health professionals, health policy organizations and individuals, and academics involved in these disciplines. Delaware and Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits (including ethics) will be available.

The coordinators invite proposals for papers, panels, and presentations on developments concerning issues on or closely related to: advance care planning, POLST, drug laws with regard to palliative care, hospice coverage under Medicare, hospice fraud & abuse, capacity and guardianships, and assistance in dying.

One-page abstracts must be received by September 30, 2009. To submit an abstract or project description for consideration, please email a Word or PDF attachment to wlrsymposium2010@gmail.com. All proposals should include the author’s name, title, institutional affiliation and contact information. Authors are also welcome, but not required, to submit a CV. By October 15, 2009, proposals will be selected both for presentation and (separately) for publication in the law review. For presenters, both reasonable travel expenses and an honorarium will be provided.

Health Law and the Elderly: Managing Risk at the End of Life

Each year, the Widener University School of Law, in cooperation with the Widener Law Review, sponsors a symposium that is held at the Law School. This event brings together national and local experts to speak on various facets of timely legal issues. The expert presentations inspire both solicited and unsolicited articles for publication in a subsequent Law Review Volume.

Symposium Description
